What About that App?

Why is there no app for booking labels at ShipYourReptiles and ShipYourAquatics?

More and more these days, it seems like we live on our smart phones. For a lot of people, the smart phone has become their primary (or only) computer device. And for just about every task you can imagine, there’s an “app” for your phone that allows you to do that task quickly and simply. 

So why is there no app for booking labels at SYR/SYA? We certainly have the technical capabilities to build one. And if we didn’t, we’ve gotten many offers from thoughtful and well-meaning loyal customers to build us one. Sourcing the build is not an issue. 

The reason there is no app, and no current plans to build one, is more of a philosophical nature than a technical one. 

Our primary business is shipping live animals. There’s a tremendous amount of responsibility involved when lives are on the line. Our websites are filled with a great deal of information critical to consistently successful shipments of living creatures. An app, streamlined for quick and simple label booking, would strip away most, if not all, of that information.

We want our customers focused on the details:

  • The critical need for Priority Overnight service on live shipments
  • Packaging Standards -- meeting or exceeding the SYR/SYA Shipping Standards
  • Allowed shipping days
  • Weather warnings and other FedEx alerts
  • Guidelines for heat pack usage
  • Temperatures at both ends of the shipment
  • And much more

We’re not shipping books or knick-knacks. We’re shipping live animals and their well-being is our responsibility. It shouldn’t be as easy as a few quick clicks on a cell phone app to box one up and ship it across the country. The process should involve some thoughtful consideration and practical reminders along the way. 

Our websites are optimized for viewing and use on mobile devices and in the grand scheme of things, it only takes a few minutes to book a label. We believe that time is not too much to ask in order to help insure the best chances for success on every shipment.
